A man’s balcony collapse in New York City has been ruled a freak accident, and the fire department says the cause is not connected to the fire.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

The fire started around 5:40 p.m. on a floor above a condo in the East Village, near Central Park, according to the New York Fire Department.

The stairwell is connected to a balcony and the cause of death is still being determined, the New London Fire Department said in a statement.
