A few days before Chelsea’s season opens, Jose Mourinho’s side have officially unveiled their new coach, with the former United manager unveiling his own take on their style of play in a press conference in central London.
Mourinho, who will return to Stamford Bridge in January after a six-year stint as Real Madrid’s coach, said that he would not be “a fan of what happened in the past”, adding that he “can’t be in the same situation as the previous manager” at Real Madrid.
He said that, although he was a big fan of Real Madrid, “it was not the right time” for him to return to his previous role, and added that the club’s new ownership group, led by Antonio Conte, had a lot of “difficult decisions to make”.
“I’m sure that there will be a change in the future, but not in a very long time.
I’m not sure about this season,” he said.”
What we will have will be the same as what we have now.
We will have to see, but I don’t think I will have a big change of position.”
Mourambo also criticised the Premier League, describing it as “a league of losers”, adding: “I’m very disappointed in the Premier Leagues.
It’s a league of winners.
It needs to change.””
It’s the worst league in the world.
It needs to change.”
Asked what he thought of the Premier league’s dominance in terms of players and fixtures, he said: “No, I don´t think it’s very strong.”
Chelsea had won the Premier on three previous occasions before Mourinho’s arrival at the club, but it is the first time they have won it in two seasons since winning the Champions League in 2014.
They have won just one league title since the start of the 2015-16 season, having lost in the League Cup and the FA Cup.
After Mourinho’s press conference, the Portuguese club announced a £50 million sponsorship deal with Puma, and confirmed that their players would receive a £2 million bonus for the new season.
