A woman who was killed when her church balcony collapsed in South Carolina was just the latest to die in a church collapse.
On Sunday, a woman died after falling from a balcony at a church in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Her death is the fourth death to be attributed to the church collapse in the past week.
The woman’s death is believed to be the first death in the country related to church collapses.
The Orangeburg Fire Department said in a statement that the woman, who was not identified, died at the scene of the collapse, which occurred at around 1 p.m.
The church, which is affiliated with a Southern Baptist denomination, was undergoing renovations.
The Orangeburg Police Department said they responded to a call of a woman falling down the balcony of the church and found her on the ground.
Orangeburg Fire Chief Scott Brown said the woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.
She had been transported to a local hospital, where she died.
Brown said that when the woman’s body was discovered, she was lying on the sidewalk, but was wearing a seat belt.
